Ubuntu. Getting started on opensource software.
I received my Ubuntu CD the other day and I am very much excited to try it. I have tried the Live CD and I think it does work well, definitely cleaner than Windows.
I haven’t tweaked it that much yet since I am still trying to read more on Ubuntu since I am new to linux being a windows user since I started using the pc. I like it a lot actually, though I am still having second thoughts because I use Photoshop a lot. I have tried GIMP but its much harder to use (in my own experience). Other than the Photoshop problem,I am also encountering a bit of trouble with regards to getting online since I’m a bit stuck with dial-up at the moment. I’m finding it hard to connect through my modem when I am in Ubuntu.
I have searched the net already for possible solutions but the syntax’s I saw made my head hurt so I figured I’d try it when I have more free time. I’m really trying to get a laptop soonish, and I am interested on running Ubuntu on it. The cheaper laptops here come with either Linux or no OS at all. I have to remember the technical assistants in the computer shops if they can install Ubuntu on the laptop that I would get from them.
If they don’t have any ideas, I’d have to research some more or opt for the Windows ones, and then just change it into Ubuntu once I understand it better.
